The concluding day of PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week 2014 was devoted to a romance with nature and life with designers like Maria B. who rocked the ramp with her latest luxury/pret wear collection 2014.
The pillar of the Pakistani fashion Maria B. took inspiration from her own Kashmiri backgroud in her “Ladakh Connection.” She said about her collection, “I am particularly excited about the Maria B Ladakh Connection, I am showcasing at PSFW as it is a manifestation of my emotional attachment to the fabled land of my ancestors, Kashmir.”
The colour palette of latest luxury/pret wear Maria B Ladakh Connection draws equally from Kashmir’s natural beauty and aristocratic heritage as it does from its ravages of war based in a range of pure karandi, silk organzas, silk chiffons and digital prints.

She also hosted a special exhibition stall at PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week 2014, commemorating the brand’s 15 years in fashion. The coherency of the dresses, the palazzos and the drapes was rich in culture and very wearable. The boleros with their intricate work were chic.
7th PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week was held from the 10th to 13th of April 2014 which focused specifically on the region’s long hot summer months and all the shows defined and present trends for the year. When it comes to buyers, this edition was welcomed regional buyers too apart from some international players.

While talking about her latest Maria B Ladakh Connection at PDFC, the designer expressed her feelings, “This year marks the fifteenth year of the MARIA.B label which I first launched with a vision to revolutionise and make accessible, women’s retail in the country and I am proud to have upheld and expanded on this vision.”
“Having first started with one small stitching unit in Lahore, today the brand is among the most diverse in Pakistan with prêt a porter, couture, formal wear, lawn, embroidered fabrics and cottons all within one affordable label with an extensive retail networks of 25 standalone outlets in 12 different cities across the country, while also exporting to 6 international destinations.”
She continued, “It was while researching that I discovered that my paternal ancestors came from Ladak in Northern Kashmir, where the art and cultural influences are significantly Central Asian. I’ve played around with silhouettes paying predominant homage to the ‘firil’ – an oversized Kashmiri kurta, mostly worn knee length.”
The backstage management was done by Product 021, Sara Shahid of Sublime by Sara as the official spokesperson for the PFDC, logistics and operations by Eleventh Retail and photography by Faisal Farooqui and the team at Dragonfly.
